My Baby Has a Helmet
Kennedy is my 9 month old baby and she has "Plagiocephaly" deformity of the skull (flat spot). We knew at her 6 month appointment she would be needing to get this. But it was actually a lot of work to finally get it. It took about 1 month to get into Primary's to see the cranial facial plastic surgeon and then another month to make the helmet! But she has it on now. She has to wear it for 23 hrs of the day for approximately 3 months. We take it off in the evenings usually for an hour so we can get her in the tub and wash her helmet. There are pressure spots on certain areas and no pressure on her flat spots. We have to go into the helmet place every 10 days or so to get it refitted as her head changes shape and grows. Then we have to go to primary children's every 4 weeks to have the specialist look at it. It is important to get this helmet on while her soft spots haven't closed and her skull is moldable still. If we didn't do it now, she might run into problems when she is older. Her brain which is round would be trying to grow in a not round skull which could only be fixed by skull surgery. So hopefully we can avoid that! And soft spots close around 14 months of age. So we are happy that she has it on now. She has had it for about 3 weeks and her head is already changing. The first week was a rough but she is used to it now. Here is when she got it casted.

What a little cutie! I love her chubby cheeks too! That's great that they can fix the problem while she is still little so she hopefully have to deal with them in the future :).
She is so sweet, and I just love her chubby cheeks too. My neighbor's daughter had to have that surgery done and the change in her is incredible. Her head used to be really long and narrow and then after the surgery its' almost perfectly round. It's good that your DR. caught that early though, and the helmet looks kinda cute on her anyway. Hope all else is well! Love ya!
She is so cute! The helmet doesn't seem to phase her a bit and definitly doesn't detract from her beauty!
